Experienced industry leader to drive Warner Music’s growth in Japan’s evolving market
Warner Music Japan has announced the appointment of Takeshi Okada as its new President and CEO, effective December 2nd. Okada, a respected figure in Japan’s music industry, will report to Simon Robson, who is overseeing Warner Music Group’s operations in the Asia-Pacific region until a permanent successor is found.
Simon Robson expressed his enthusiasm for Okada’s appointment, praising his extensive experience and reputation within the industry. Robson noted that Okada’s leadership comes at a critical time as Warner Music focuses on accelerating its growth in Japan, the world’s second-largest music market. Kaz Kobayashi, the outgoing CEO, and Dr. Kenji Kitatani, the newly appointed Chairman of Warner Music Japan, will support Okada during the transition.
Okada joins Warner Music Japan following his tenure as managing director of EMI Records Japan, a label under Universal Music Group, where he oversaw major successes for artists such as singer-songwriter Yumi Matsutoya and the rock band Mrs. GREEN APPLE. His extensive experience includes over a decade at Universal Music Japan, where he spearheaded digital marketing initiatives and played a pivotal role in advancing the company’s streaming strategy.
Reflecting on his new role, Okada expressed excitement about leading Warner Music Japan during a time of rapid evolution in the industry. He acknowledged the strong foundation laid by his predecessor, Kaz Kobayashi, and emphasized his commitment to continuing Warner Music Japan’s growth and innovation in the ever-changing Japanese music landscape.
The appointment marks a new chapter for Warner Music Japan as Okada prepares to lead the company’s ambitious growth plans in the highly competitive market.
