Argentina Opens Its Doors: Citizenship by Investment Program Officially Launched
Argentina unveils a groundbreaking citizenship-by-investment program, offering global investors fast-track access to a second passport—no residency required—in exchange for significant economic contributions.
A bold new pathway to a second passport in Latin America—Argentina introduces an investment-based citizenship route, offering global investors opportunity, access, and a new life in one of the world’s most affordable, vibrant nations.
Argentina Officially Launches Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Program
In a landmark policy shift aligned with President Javier Milei’s open-market vision, Argentina has officially introduced its first-ever Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program—offering foreign investors a direct path to Argentine citizenship in exchange for significant financial contributions to the country’s economy.
This move comes as global interest in second citizenships grows, driven by individuals seeking greater freedom, improved quality of life, and new business opportunities abroad. Argentina’s new initiative positions the nation as a dynamic contender in the global CBI arena, joining a select group of countries offering streamlined, investment-based access to citizenship.
A Strategic Leap Toward Global Capital
Until now, Argentina’s citizenship laws only allowed applications through birthright, descent, or naturalization—which traditionally required a two-year legal residency. With the publication of Decree 524/2025 in the Official Gazette, that requirement has changed.
Under the new framework, foreign nationals who make a “significant investment”—a term to be defined by the Economy Ministry—are eligible to apply for citizenship without any residency requirement. This legislative change, introduced in May, marks a pivotal step in President Milei’s efforts to open Argentina’s economy to international investors.
What Qualifies as a “Significant Investment”?
The exact investment threshold has not yet been disclosed, allowing some flexibility as the Economy Ministry works to define qualifying criteria. It will also have the authority to craft specific investment projects designed to attract targeted capital inflows.
Applications will be reviewed by the newly established Investment Citizenship Programs Agency, operating under the Economy Ministry. This agency will consult key government bodies—including the Security Ministry, State Intelligence, and Financial Information Unit—to conduct due diligence and evaluate national security implications.
A Streamlined Application Process
Once an investor submits an application, the agency will conduct a comprehensive review in partnership with other state institutions. If the application passes security and economic vetting, the National Migration Directorate will be advised to proceed. A decision must then be issued within 30 working days.
Successful applicants will not only gain Argentine citizenship but also receive a CUIT (Unique Tax Identification Number)—a crucial credential for conducting business and engaging in economic activities within Argentina.
Key Benefits of Argentine Citizenship
Becoming an Argentine citizen offers numerous advantages, including:
Visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 162 destinations, including the EU Schengen Area, South America, and key global markets.
Public healthcare access, which is limited to Argentine nationals and legal residents.
Affordable cost of living paired with world-class amenities, diverse geography, and a rich cultural heritage.
Eligibility for rights and protections under Argentine law, and the ability to live, work, and invest freely in one of Latin America’s most vibrant economies.
A Win-Win for Investors and Argentina
By humanizing its citizenship process and opening the door to global investors, Argentina is not just offering a passport—it’s inviting individuals to participate in its economic transformation. Whether drawn by opportunity, lifestyle, or a desire for global mobility, eligible investors now have a clear path into a nation poised for growth.
As the world continues to redefine borders through innovation and investment, Argentina’s CBI program stands as a bold declaration: the future belongs to those who are ready to invest in it.
